He was out of school for 3 of the 5 Mondays in January, 2 for holidays and one for a teacher work day (they follow the local school district schedule). Just try explaining a teacher work day to a 4 year-old who understands that his school is usually only closed for holidays and holidays mean no mail and the library is closed.
This is just a snipped of the 45 MINUTE!! conversation about WHY??? he was not going to school on this particular Monday.
Me: You dont have school today what do you want to do?
J: Why dont I have school? I used to go to school on Monday.
Me: You still have school on Monday just not today.
J: Why? Is it a holiday? I used to have school on Monday.
Me: No, not a holiday, just a teacher work day.
J: What is a teacher work day?
Me: Teachers work but kids dont go to school (I wasnt about to try to explain that his teachers werent exactly working that day)
J: My teachers are there without me?? Why? Is it a holiday? I used to go to school on Monday, right??
Me: You still do, just not today.
J: Is it a holiday?
Me: Yes, Jack. It is a holiday today.
J: So no mail, right??
Me: Ummm....let's go to the library.
J: We cant go to the library, Mommy. 'Member, it's a holiday!!
He also expereinced goose bumps for the first time several months ago and was just astounded with the little bumps on his arms and legs. We had to go through a very thorough explanation about why he had them, where they came from and when they would go away. Several weeks later when he got chilly again he begged me to warm him up because he did not like getting those duck bumps on his arms.
And, last but not least, one afternoon Jackson found some little snack bags I had used for something at school in a kitchen drawer. He asked if he could use a few of them and then proceeded to entertain himself for hours with them. I had no idea was he was doing until after he was in bed that night and I found this...
Oh yeah, this is his "tool box". You know, just in case you need something fixed with pennies, measuring spoons or paper clips.

That is so awesome to see just how they process things now. Love the tool box. you never know when a fork, pennies, and other things can be the right thing for the job. :)
I love the conservation. I feel like that at my house too. Sometimes it makes me want to cry/scream but then I think about how funny it is and just laugh (most of the time!)
