Off to a good start...

My goal for this year is to start running again. I ran New Years Day 2010 but then got pretty sick with my pregnancy about a week after that and didn't run a single step the rest of the year. Running is my stress release, it is my time away from everything. I dont even listen to music when I run - I just love hearing the sound of my feet hitting the pavement. And I have missed it so much I have often times felt like a little piece of me has been missing. I am eager to get out the door and start running and have done several little runs in the evenings once the boys are in bed.

Anyways - that being said - we really wanted to start the New Year off right. And the best way to do that?? With a run!! There was a great run here in Cary called the Resolution Run. But - we never got around to signing up for it and I was not sure if I would even be able to run 3 miles yet. I was pretty sad to miss out on the first opportunity to work towards my goal but super excited when I learned that they had a free kids dash - which didnt require registration at all.

We talked up the run to Jackson and he was so excited to race. He kept saying he was going to win and beat everybody!! Of course, no New Years Day run would be complete with out Jacks buddy, Riley. So we met Riley and his parents at the race, got the boys all stoked up for their first major race - and off they went.

There were probably about 30 kids of all ages and it was actually really cute. They did an actual start with the blowing of a fog horn and had adults along the sides cheering the kids on. Jack was absolutely adorable. He took off - Lee ran alongside him cheering him on the whole way (have I mentioned what an amazing Daddy Lee is?? Our boys are so blessed to have him and I dont know what I would do without him). Jackson was serious business about his race and was focused on the finish line. His little legs were just pumping and his arms were going. He loved it and I was so proud of him. It was so neat to see him feel like he had accomplished something. He actually finished pretty good - considering he was one of the youngest there.

All the kids to a medal when they crossed the finish line - they boys were so proud of their medals. They wore them all day long. Jack even wanted to bring his for show and tell at school.

The boys and their silly faces. Jackson actually always makes a silly face - I am working on a slide show of all his silly faces. This kid is a hoot. I am constantly cracking up scrolling through pictures of him. One day (like when he is 15) he will regret these silly faces. But for now, we are eating them up.

# 1!! Have I mentioned that Jack inherited Lee's competitiveness??? Riley has a little touch of it also so it is always super fun when they are together.

The starting line - that is Riley's mom and dad right in front of my camera and Jack and Lee are waaaayyy off to the right. Lee is in the red shirt.
Keep running, Bug. I am so proud of you and cant wait for the day we can run the races together!!

Yes I agree with Jen. Not sure we can handle two of them. Way to go Jack for finishing your race and getting a medal.
