We have been working with Jackson on his "nice words" or "big boy words" - words like please and thank you. It's kind of upsetting to eat dinner with your son and have him yell "MILK!!" when he wants milk so we started working on "milk, please." He got that pretty quickly so we moved onto "Mommy, may I have some milk please?". Sounds like a lot but he got that pretty quickly, also. Only problem is he uses that phrase for everything - he just substitutes his current want/need for milk.
Here are some recent Jackson Mother May I quotes:
Mommy, may I have some Daddy put me to bed please, Mommy? (he wanted Lee to put him to bed - not me)
Mommy, may I have some all done eating please, Mommy? (he wanted to get down from the table)
Mommy, may I have some help me please, Mommy? (he needed some help - this one actually would have worked if he had left out the word "me")
And then one of my favorite things is when I hear him use this phrase on his little friends. We were playing with Caleb one day and Jackson wanted whatever it was Caleb was playing with. Jackson came up to me wanting some help getting this toy from Caleb and I told him he needed to ask Caleb nicely. This is what Tricia and I heard from the other room:
Jackson: "Caleb, may I have some Mickey Mouse please, Caleb?"
Caleb: "No."
I need to learn from Caleb - I have a really hard time saying no when he uses this cute phrase on me.

I love it. Actually, I think Caleb likes to say "no" too much. Guess he is just used to hearing me tell him no when he is not supposed to be doing something.
It is so cute to see them grow and develop their own personalities.
