The flu andthe race in the rain

Jackson has (had)the flu - found out yesterday. Poor little guy - he is actually feeling about 90% better today - fever is gone, cough is almost gone, runny nose is almost gone. But still - he had the flu. He had a bad cough and a little fever on Friday. Besides being incredibly grumpy (who can blame him) he didn't give any signs of "the flu". Saturday - he was great!! Little cough - no fever - no grumpy. Sunday about 4:30 am he woke up with an incredibly high fever, begging me for water. I gave him Tylenol, a nice cold glass of water and rocked him until his fever went down. He ended up sleeping with us from about 5:45 until 7:45 - he just couldn't get comfortable. Still didn't think it was the dreaded flu.
Sunday he lounged all day (perfect day for it - rained all day) had a slight fever until about 5:30 when it hit almost 104.5!! After a cool bath and some more medicine the fever went down and mine and Lee's heartrates went back to normal. Took him to the doctor Monday morning where she took one look at him and said "I bet he has the flu". The test confirmed it and we were sent home with instructions to rest, drink fluids and keep him quarantined until Saturday. The flu shot didn't keep him away from the flu but it sure did make it a quick bout of the flu. He was almost better by Monday afternoon. He has honestly had a great time building tents and castles in the living room (he likes to pretend he is a knight in shining armor), reading books, watching Mickey Mouse and being loved on and spoiled. He totally deserves it.

Meanwhile, I got out of bed at 6:30 am Saturday to run a 10k in the blinding rain. It was probably the best time I have ever had running a race - ever. Crazy, I know. I woke up to hear the rain pounding our roof and thought about staying home. I mean - it was POURING, and cold, and I would probably get sick and my nice, warm bed was just calling me. But, then I thought - I am young and God wants me to enjoy the rain as much as the sun. So I ran. I ran with a girl I know from my gym and some of her friends. We really did have a great time. Rain and all.
